Description: See urchins are marine animals which live at all water depths. Their dermaskeletron is formed by small calcite plates, which are normally spined. Their skeletron is usually rounded or discoid. Most of the sea urchins are deposit feeder. Eggs of some species can be eaten. The specimen comes from Priabona, nearby the town of Monte di Malo, (Vicenza), which gave the name to the Priabonian, the reference period for Upper Eocene of the Mediterranean. The local sequence begins with the characteristic basal conglomerate bearing Cerithium diaboli (conglomerate of Boro). The Priabona Formation consists of limestones, marly limestones and marls rich in in shallow sea fossil. The formation fossils assemblage include 66 species of Echinoidea, many of which exclusive of the Vicenza area.
