Relief with a head of Bacchante

Subject: head of Bacchante

Cultural context: Renaissance period

Date: 16th century A.D.

The relief appears as an ancient artwork, because it represents a female head crowned with ivy leaves, such as the figure of an ancient bacchante. Nevertheless, scholars recently established that this is a Renaissance work inspired by classical schemes derived from roman sarcophagi or others ancient monuments.
