Stereoscopic photographic plates

Francesco Zantedeschi bought these plates for the Cabinet of Physics of the University of Padua in June 1852.

Maker: Maison Duboscq-Soleil, led by Jules Duboscq from 1849 to 1886.

Date: 3rd quarter 19th century

Description

The two images were originally mounted together, in order to be observed through a stereoscope, but the frame is missing.

The images represent the same high-relief but seen from two slightly different angles. Similar, as for their making, to other plates of Padua Museum of the History of Physics (Cat. Number 982), they can be ascribed to Duboscq-Soleil workshop. Sculptures, as well as still-life, architecture and portraiture, were the most common subjects in photographic plates in those early years.
