The museum of Geology and Paleontology houses tens of thousands of fossil plants, invertebrates and vertebrates and rock samples. Most of them are coming from sites in Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Trentino Alto Adige regions.
The fossils, remains of animals or plants living in the past, testify the presence of the life on Earth since remote ages and document how biodiversity changed through time. The fossilization is an exceptional event, because only a few organisms that lived in the past fossilized, and only a small part of the fossils were found. By studying the fossils we can derive useful information about the evolution of life, the geography, climate and environments during the deep time.
