Virtual itineraries : art science technology
"Virtual itineraries" is the instrument we make available to the public in this website. It was developed by H-Art company of Treviso as the completion of the project Art Science Technology. The project was devised and carried out through a collaboration between the Centre for Museums and the Centre for Libraries of the University of Padua. It was financed by a Programme Agreement set up between the University of Padua and the Ministry for Education, University and Research (under Law No 6/2000 for scientific culture dissemination, call 2012).
The University of Padua, by virtue of its long history, houses prestigious museums and collections, which are amongst the richest in Europe. This heritage, along with the University's artistic and architectural heritage, libraries, and archives, illustrates, as a whole, the history of the academic research and teaching that were carried out in Padua in the last centuries. It also documents the tight connections of the University with the surrounding territory and the role it played at a National and International level.
"Virtual itineraries" combines the usual catalographic details on objects with data from libraries and archives, and proposes paths through the University of Padua’s heritage, which is not always known or easily accessible. The website also offers the opportunity of discovering connections with the heritage of the city of Padova and the Veneto Region. A “diffused museum” thus emerges, which also provides the possibility of planning real visits to various sites. The proposed itineraries actually enlighten new connections between the development of science, technique, art and architecture, thus disclosing both to the general public and to scholars, unexpected and stimulating issues.
